You are spot on! We are constrained by our human nature to keep plowing on to the bitter end, regardless. As I approach my eighties I can hope that I will not live to see it. Unfortunately I can’t say that for my grandchild.
I became an adult in a period of great optimism. Technological changes and societal changes were making life better for more and more people. Only now are we realising the cost, especially in terms of human reproduction and the prolongation of life which have, together, ensured the more than doubling of the world’s population, negating all of those benefits. I screamed at the TV the other day when the UK’s health minister announced that the NHS now had the capacity to recommence fertility treatment, as though this was the number one priority, over heart disease, cancer, you name it.
We truly are in a situation of an unstoppable force meeting an impenetrable obstruction.
