Thanks for sharing your experience. There are so many such scams that it is a wonder anyone still falls for them. The latest here in Ireland is the use of random mobile numbers to call the potential victim to discuss a 'suspicious' transaction on a credit card or Revolut account. Call the number back a day or two later and the real owner of the number will say they never called you (they didn't). What I don't understand is how the scammer was able to use someone else's phone for the call.

A couple years ago I was offering an item for sale on a genuine 'things for sale' website. I received an offer from someone who explained that a well known courier service would deposit the agreed price into my account then collect the item on her behalf. Like the purported PayPal site you visited, the dummy courier site looked genuine. It even had a pop-up chat bot to guide me through the process.

My bank contacted me within minutes to say my card was being used in a Google Pay wallet in an Eastern European capital city.
