Like everyone, I have been subjected to innumerable influences: parents, teachers, books, TV documentaries, articles, lectures and sermons, as well as the Christian Bible (King Kames version.) In close on 80 years I would have had to be a hermit for that not to be the case. But I have a brain that is capable of analysing information and assessing which sets of beliefs seem consistent with each other, and which seem at odds with the things I observe in the world.
One of the things I’ve noticed about religions is that there are many different versions of what god is. Most of the promoters of these religions believe that their version is the truth and that all other versions are mistaken. Some are even prepared to go to war in order to demonstrate the superiority of their version. Given that they cannot all be the ‘one true’ version of god I think it quite reasonable to conclude that none is.
